I have had many people tell me they struggle with dieting and can't lose the weight. The problem they are having IS dieting. In order to make the necessary changes to our bodies, we must be willing to make lifestyle changes. It is not a process that will happen overnight and you have to deal with the word everyone loves to dislike... Patience.

I am sixty pounds down, but it took sixteen months to get there and I still have five pounds to go to reach my first goal and twenty five pounds to reach my ultimate weight loss goal. It takes time to change your habits and to get healthy. The older you get, the harder the poundage is to lose. Patience is an important part of the process and is required.

Eating the right foods, learning about what you are putting into your body, and how it affects you is essential. I start my day with a tall glass of water and have a protein breakfast of an egg on multigrain toast or a protein smoothie. Try to incorporate protein into every meal. I learned over time that breads, cheese, red meats, chips, sugar... were things I had to cut from my diet. What used to be heavy staples in my eating habits are rarely or not eaten now. You will learn what foods are not good for you and make the changes necessary for your goals. Again, it takes time and patience to develop these new habits. Be kind to yourself and don't give up.

Getting into shape requires exercise. Start out by walking 30 minutes a day or join a workout class. It is important to find something that you will enjoy and is sustainable. I was not a fan of exercising at first. I get it. Over time I developed this schedule: During the week, I take cardio drumming, Zumba, and strength training classes. On the weekends, I walk with Mr. Grumble. Exercise has become an important part of my week. It will be for you too. Again, it takes time and patience. Keep doing it, even when you don't want to. Especially when you don't want to!

I try to tell everyone who is starting their journeys these things. I wanted to give up, as well, many times, but I knew it was important to keep striving for my health and to be around for my family and friends. My health was deteriorating rapidly and I had to make changes. I do not know what your reasons are, but if it is important enough to you, you will keep going. It matters and most of all, you matter! You got this!

2 Chronicles 15:2- "But you, take courage! Do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded."
