I have had many people share with me the same excuses I used to say about getting healthy. I understand. It is hard to make changes and many people are adverse to it. Here are some of the concerns that have been expressed to me. See if you recognize any excuses you have thought or may be thinking:

"I like to eat food! I'm not giving up the good stuff to lose weight. No way!" Been there, said that! Here is what I have to say about that now: You will when your health gets bad enough. When a doctor informs you your health will not improve if you don't. That hamburger, pizza... may taste good now, but is it worth it if it costs you your health and potentially your life? What is of value is to feel better. To be able to breathe when you walk places and not lose your breath because you are not well. I have not deprived myself of those splurge meals. I enjoy them sporadically. It is all about balancing your food choices and getting on a plan that is sustainable for you. You can do it!

"I hate to exercise! I am not taking classes and have everyone laugh at me!" I wasn't a fan of it either. I had to search for things that I would find enjoyable and go for it. For me, it is cardio drumming, Zumba, lifting weights, and walks with Mr. Grumble. If you don't want to be around people, try bike riding, jogging, dancing in the living room like you just don't care, or walking the dog a long way. Exercise does not have to be strenuous, you just have to move and be active. Your body will thank you for it.

"I don't have time to prepare healthy food. It is easier to go out and get something." When the kids are in bed and you are alone, make time to cut up some veggies and fruit, and prepare food before you go to bed. It should become a priority. I know you are tired, but the twenty minutes it will take to have a healthy meal instead of junk will be worth it. Eating nutritously over fast food will give you more energy and not feel lethargic. I noticed the difference when I made these changes in my food choices. I know you will too. You work and feel better and that makes you more productive. Try it and you will see what I mean.

"I can't afford programs like Noom or get a health coach." There are plenty of free resources out there to help you. I have friends who log their meals and count calories with free apps. Do some research to find something that will work for you. It

doesn't have to be expensive to get healthy, you just have to be willing to do it.

It's a new year and time to set some goals for yourself. You can come up with many reasons to not change your lifestyle. I was that way for many years and my health declined. Take time for yourself, realize the importance of why you need to make improvements, and prioritize them. Your body, mind, and soul will thank you for it.

You got this!

Joshua 1:9- "... Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
